Leaves
Glossy, evergreen, 2-4 inch alternate, leaves
are long and narrow with rounded tips and prominant veining. Because of the shape and
texture of its leaves, the Gopher Apple resembles an oak seedling.

Tiny clusters of yellow-green flowers, blooming at branch tips in early summer
Fruit
Oval fruits, 1 inch long, sport a
white with a purplish tinge when ripe.

Propagated by seed. Not suited for
containers.
Landscape usage
Gopher apple can be used as a woody groundcover in dry, sandy areas. It will
tolerate occasional mowing.

in his journal in the late 1700's. |
