The Volusia County Citizens Academy

Applications now being accepted for 2012 class

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Citizens Academy, a fun, hands-on awareness program designed to educate and inform citizens about Volusia County government operations.

The class will meet on Tuesdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., starting March 6 and continuing for 12 weeks to May 22. Classes are held at various County facilities. There is no charge for the program, but applicants are asked to commit to attending all 12 weeks classes.

If you would like to apply, please complete the application and return it to Cindy Finney, County Manger’s Office, Volusia County Government, TCK Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand, FL 32720 or by email to cfinney@co.volusia.fl.us or by fax to (386) (386) 943-7028.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 24, 2012 and class size is limited to 25 participants.

The Citizens Academy curriculum offers a wide range of seminars and workshops featuring the "inner workings" of Volusia County Government. Topics include elections, growth management, community services, public protection, property assessments, budgets and more. Citizens will view County construction projects, visit the Marine Science Center and County parks, and shadow a County administrator for a closer look at our organization.

Some basic knowledge and familiarity with computers is helpful, as class materials are posted online and email is used to communicate with class members.

For more information, please contact Cindy Finney, program administrator, in the Volusia County Manager’s office at (386) 740-5160.
