Joie Alexander represents District 3 on the Volusia County Council. Her district includes Port Orange, a small area of South Daytona, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Oak Hill.

Ms. Alexander received a bachelor’s degree in Business Education and a master’s degree in Business from Georgia Southern University, and a specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Nova University.

She was employed by the School District of Volusia County from 1978 to 1999, serving as Principal of Samsula Elementary School, Director of Personnel, Staff Development Specialist, and Department Chair/Teacher at DeLand High School.

In 1999, she was named Elementary Principal of the Year by the Florida Art Education Association of the State of Florida.

Previously, she was owner of Budget Rent-A-Car of DeLand; Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga.; caseworker for Florida’s Department of Welfare; and a realtor for Hayward Brown Inc. and Spruce Creek Fly-in Realty.

Personal

Ms. Alexander moved to Volusia County in 1977 and has lived in DeLand, New Smyrna Beach and the Port Orange area. She has one daughter, Andrea (Mrs. Jim Gleason), and four grand-children (Jared, Thad, Ali-Mae, and Tucker).
