Florida Master Naturalist
registration under way at University of Florida Extension
Volusia County residents interested in Florida’s coastal environmental
can become a Florida Master Naturalists through a 40-hour program
offered by the University of Florida Volusia County Extension.
The Coastal Systems Florida Master
Naturalist Program (FMNP) is a non-degree program, taught in six one day
sessions. The class is scheduled Fridays, April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11,
and 18th from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The registration deadline is April 2, 2012.
Class size is limited to 20.
The class offered by the University of
Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF-IFAS) is located
at the Volusia County Extension Service, 3100 E. New York Ave., DeLand.
Three to four field trips will be to area
coastal locations. Field trip locations may include the Whitney Marine
Bio-Medical Lab, Lighthouse Point Park, Canaveral National Seashore,
kayaking on the Indian River Lagoon and much more. FMNP courses are
appropriate for the novice and the highly skilled environmental
professional.
The cost is $225 for educational
materials, field trips and classroom sessions taught by University of
Florida Extension staff. Participants completing the course will receive
pins, patches and certificates identifying them as Florida Master
Naturalists, and registration in the UF-IFAS database as FMNP coastal
systems naturalists.
