HazMat Response

A logging truck lost control on I-95 and the logs began rolling off of the truck. After that, a vehicle hit the logs and overturned.. Another semi-truck carrying a methyl bromide cloropicrin mixture crashed into the logging truck resulting in it overturning . This chain of events started a fire at the scene and the gas mixture contained in the cylinders began heating. The gas cylinders were subject to reaching a point of BLEVE (boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion). Some of the cylinders shot over 200 feet into the woods. That, in turn, sparked two brush fires. Units from Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Port Orange Fire and Rescue, Daytona Beach Fire, Port Orange Police Dept., Florida Highway Patrol, EVAC, Air One, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Transportation and Volusia County units: HazMat1, E12, ARFF2, BAT 20, DIV 13, T11, T35, T23, E32, Chief 13, FP 150, 151, 158, 159 and 350 responded to the scene.
