Wanted: Your products
and services
Volusia Prepares Business is actively
developing a list of critical products and services that can be quickly
acquired and put to use following a disaster. Do you have what we need?
The Greater Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Workforce
Development Board of Flagler and Volusia Counties is working to
establish a data-base of vital resources that may be of critical need to
our community following a disaster. The data base can be used in a
number of different ways.
First, a company that is in need of a service or piece of equipment to
remain in business will have a clearing house to find the widget or
gadget it needs to reopen or stay open following the incident.
Second, the municipalities and Volusia County government will be able to
use the data-base to identify those resources they need within the
county rather than have to request mutual aid through the State
Emergency Operations Center. Jim Ryan, the Director of Emergency
Management for Volusia County, says this saves time in getting the
resources and keeps the money in the county. When a mutual aid request
is made the money for the product or service is paid to a company
located someplace else, perhaps even out of state.
Keeping companies operational and employees working is an important
reason behind the creating of the data base, according to Ryan.
