DELTONA DEATHS RULED MURDER-SUICIDE

Autopsies on the two bodies discovered Wednesday afternoon inside a Deltona home have confirmed that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. The weapon was a handgun found in the lap of 34-year-old Jesus Negron. Information at the scene indicates that Negron shot and killed 37-year-old Julyann Rivera and then turned the gun on himself.

The couple and their four children had lived together at 678 Alexander Ave. for some time. However, friends say they were in the process of splitting up. Rivera and the children had moved out approximately two months ago and were living at a relative’s home in Deltona. A school crossing guard supervisor for the Sheriff’s Office, Rivera reported to work Wednesday morning at her office in Deltona. When she left work for lunch, co-workers thought she was going to check on her children. Investigators aren’t certain why she ended up at the home on Alexander Avenue. At 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, one of Rivera’s co-workers alerted the Sheriff’s Office’s dispatch center after a relative of Negron told the co-worker that Negron had called his father and said he had done some something stupid and was going to kill himself. Co-workers repeatedly tried to contact Rivera, but their phone calls went unanswered.

Deputies dispatched to the house on Alexander Avenue started arriving at 12:51 p.m.  After no one answered the door, they forced their way inside the residence and found Rivera’s body on the living room floor and Negron’s body in the master bedroom. The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted autopsies Thursday morning, confirming that the victims died of gunshot wounds in a murder-suicide.
