19-YEAR-OLD DELTONA MAN RE-ARRESTED ON NEW SEX CHARGES

Already accused of soliciting a 14-year-old girl for sex, a Deltona man is back behind bars after a second victim came forward to report that Kristophe Gonsalves forced her to perform a sex act and then threatened to kill her if she told anyone. Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators re-arrested Gonsalves on Tuesday, charging him with sexual battery, kidnapping, battery and assault. The arrest came four days after Gonsalves bonded out of jail on charges of lewd or lascivious conduct, aggravated stalking of a minor and child abuse.

The incident with the 14-year-old occurred on April 20, as the girl was walking home from the library along Providence Boulevard in Deltona. The victim told deputies that a stranger walked by her, then turned around and came back to her and started walking alongside of the girl. While he didn’t touch her, the stranger started asking the girl personal questions, like where she lived, if she had a boyfriend and whether she had ever had sex before. The suspect then asked the girl if she wanted to “get some.” He then told the girl where he lived and asked her if she wanted a ride. When the girl said no, the suspect got into a green van parked nearby and drove off -- but not before driving past the girl one time and staring. Upset and scared, the girl ran home and told her mother. The mother then contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report the incident and Sheriff’s investigators arrested Gonsalves the next day.

As news stories about the arrest started to circulate, a 19-year-old Deltona woman contacted the Sheriff’s Office on the same day of the arrest to report that she had also been victimized by Gonsalves. The victim said that in December, Gonsalves forced her to perform oral sex on him. The victim said she knew Gonsalves through mutual friends and agreed to hang out with him one day back in December. However, she said she made it clear to him that nothing would happen between the two of them. She said Gonsalves and another man she didn’t know picked her up. While in the car, she said Gonsalves started asking her for sex. The woman said she tried to get out of the car, but Gonsalves wouldn’t let her go. The three then headed to a house in Deltona. When they got there, Gonsalves took the victim aside and said she owed him, and then pulled her into a van and forced her to perform a sex act on him. The victim said she repeatedly refused and tried to get away, which led to a struggle in which the victim said she was roughed up and bruised. She eventually was able to get out of the van and run away and call for someone to pick her up. As she fled, she said Gonsalves told her that he was in a gang and threatened to kill her if she revealed what had happened.

The victim told Sheriff’s investigators that she didn’t report the attack to law enforcement at the time because she didn’t know Gonsalves’ last name, wasn’t sure if she would be believed and feared Gonsalves because of his threats. She said that when she saw Gonsalves’ picture and news stories about his arrest in the incident involving the 14-year-old, she recognized him as the person who had attacked her and decided to come forward and report the incident. Gonsalves was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on Friday on the original charges after posting $15,000 bond. Sheriff’s investigators re-arrested the 19-year-old Gonsalves Tuesday morning at his house at 2820 Lake Helen-Osteen Road on the new charges. He was brought back to the Branch Jail and booked in on $22,000 bond.

Anyone with information about Gonsalves or other victims is asked to contact Sheriff’s investigator Chastity Burke at (386) 860-7030.
