FIREFIGHTERS TRAIN FOR IN
HIGH-RISE RESCUES
Volusia County Fire Services will host more than
45 local firefighters January 9 - 11, as they train for high-rise
building rescue incidents at the Volusia County Fire Services Institute,
3889 Tiger Bay Rd., Daytona Beach.
The training, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. daily, is being
offered on behalf of the Volusia County Fire Chief’s Association,
northeast region, and brings together firefighters from the Daytona
Beach Fire Department, Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Department,
Holly Hill Fire Department, Ormond Beach Fire Department, South Daytona
Fire Department, and Volusia County Fire Services.
According to Deputy Chief Steve Plummer,
operations coordinator with Volusia County Fire Services, the
firefighters will train together to practice firefighting and rescue
techniques in the event of a high-rise building fire or other structural
incident.
“With so much development in Volusia County and
the increasing number of buildings over four-stories tall, this training
is very timely,” Plummer said. “High-rise buildings can present a large
list of challenges for responding emergency workers that may require
requesting mutual aid in the form of additional manpower and resources.
This training will help assure that the
firefighters at a high-rise incident will be familiar with the
procedures established by the Volusia County Fire Chief’s Association.”
