FIREFIGHTERS RECEIVE TRAINING IN STRUCTURAL COLLAPSE RESCUES
More
than 45 firefighters representing Volusia County, Deltona, Daytona Beach
and Ormond Beach will be training in structural collapse rescues today
through Wednesday, April 6, at the Volusia County Fire Services Training
Center, 3889 Tiger Bay Rd., Daytona Beach.
This
course, offered for the first time in Volusia County, will complete the
specialized training necessary for Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams,
and brings the county to the level of having three fully functional
light USAR teams.
“With
three teams available, quick access to outlying areas is improved,” said
Deputy Chief Kathy Weaver, Volusia County Fire Services Technical Rescue
Team Manager. “In addition, there is an advantage that these teams have
been trained to respond to small “local” incidents, and can come
together as a bigger team to respond to a large incident in our county.”
