HERSHEY YOUTH TRACK AND FIELD MEETS SET FOR
APRIL 26 IN NEW SMYRNA BEACH, MAY 3 IN DELAND
Boys and girls ages 9 - 14 are invited to participate in two free
Hershey Youth Track and Field meets scheduled for:
- 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the New Smyrna Beach
Athletic Complex, 1800 Turnbull Bay Road; and
- 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the DeLand High School track.
The program is part of the Hershey National Track and Field Program.
Children can win awards and advance to the district meet, which will be
from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the New Smyrna Beach Athletic
Complex. The top two finishers from each event will advance to the state
meet in June.
Children can register for up to three events, which include a
50-meter run, mile run, softball throw and standing long jump. Tennis
shoes are required, and spikes are not allowed. Team trophies will be
awarded to the top elementary and middle schools, and awards will be
given to children who finish in first through fourth place.
The meets are sponsored by Volusia County Leisure Services, the New
Smyrna Beach Parks and Recreation Department, and Buttleman’s Sports
Center.
Children can register in advance at the Leisure Services office, 202
N. Florida Ave., DeLand, or at the meet from 8 - 8:25 a.m. Competition
begins with the mile run at 8:30 a.m.
