PRIMARY CARE ENDS AT HEALTH DEPARTMENT’S
ORANGE CITY CLINIC; NEW DELAND CLINIC SERVING PRIMARY CARE PATIENTS
As of Tuesday, July 1, the Volusia County Health Department no longer
offers primary health care services at its Summit Clinic at Florida
Hospital-Fish Memorial, 1061 Medical Center Drive, Suite 100, Orange
City, though it will continue to provide core public health services
there.
Primary care health services in west Volusia County are being
transitioned to Northeast Florida Health Services (NEFHS). The change in
primary care in west Volusia is the result of a decision by the West
Volusia Hospital Authority in January to discontinue its contract for
primary care services with the health department and sign on with NEFHS.
Former health department primary care patients in west Volusia County
may request their medical records be transferred to NEFHS by calling
(386) 822-6215 ext. 6123, or select another private doctor. Patients
should call (386) 738-2422 to schedule an appointment with NEFHS.
In the fall, primary care services also are scheduled to discontinue
at the health department’s Deltona Clinic and NEFHS will provide those
services at a new Deltona Medical Center, location to be determined.
NEFHS clinics are at 844 W. Plymouth Ave., DeLand and 114 N. Volusia
Ave., Pierson. The DeLand location also has a full-service pharmacy.
NEFHS offers pediatric and adult primary care (including
gynecological services, lab services, minor surgical procedures, and
care for chronic illness), physicals, immunizations, family planning and
sexually transmitted diseases testing and treatment. NEFHS is a
nonprofit, Federally Qualified Health Care system built on
public/private partnerships and accepts all patients, Medicaid, Clinic
Cards, private pay and most insurance.
The health department will continue to offer several public health
services at the Orange City location: child and adult immunizations
(including travel shots); communicable disease control; testing and
treatment for tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS;
an HIV/AIDS clinic; and school physicals. The health department also
offers a variety of services at its Women's Health Center in DeLand.
Volusia County Health Department services on Volusia County’s east
side are not affected by the change in primary care providers.
