MAN SUFFERS SERIOUS BURNS IN FIRE NEAR ORMOND BEACH

Volusia County Fire Services and the Ormond Beach Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire that was reported at 4:04 a.m. today at 261 Tracy St., Ormond Beach. The home is in an unincorporated area off Airport Road.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire centered near the home's front door. Two occupants, an adult male and female, had left the home before firefighters arrived.

The man, who suffered second- and third-degree burns over 75 percent of his body, was transported to Halifax Medical Center by EVAC Ambulance. The woman had minor burns. An initial report that a child was trapped in the home was false.

The fire was extinguished quickly, and there was minimal damage to the home. The state fire marshal is investigating the cause.
