VOLUSIA COUNTY FIRE SERVICES OPENS NORTH PENINSULA STATION 14

The last phase of construction has been completed, the firefighters have moved in, and it’s time for a ribbon-cutting and day of celebration. At 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, the Volusia County Council officially will open Volusia County’s North Peninsula Station 14, 1716 Atlantic Ave., Ormond Beach.

The event will be followed by a community open house until noon. Firefighters will offer tours and other activities for the visitors.

The 6,400-square-foot station, built by Volusia County for $1.4 million, will provide fire-rescue and advanced life support services to Ormond-by-the-Sea residents and businesses along and between N. Atlantic Avenue and John Anderson Drive on the North Peninsula, according to Volusia County Fire Services Chief James Tauber. In addition, the station supports Ormond Beach under a closest unit response/mutual aid support agreement and is a backup for Volusia County Fire Stations 13 and 16 (in north Ormond Beach on the mainland).

The station is designed to meet or exceed the construction standards for hurricane protection, is fire-sprinkler protected, and has a standby generator to provide electrical power in the event of a power failure, according to Tauber.

The station is on the same property as the 3,000-square-foot station it replaces. The old station was built in 1972.
