VOLUNTEERS INVITED TO DELEON
SPRINGS CLEANUP OCT. 24
Environmental
enthusiasts are invited to make plans to participate in the fourth
annual DeLeon Springs Cleanup from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 24.
Participants should meet at the entrance to the DeLeon Springs State
Park, 601 Ponce DeLeon Blvd., and will be assigned an area to pick up
trash.
Boaters, scouts, civic organizations, environmental groups, and business
and individual volunteers are encouraged to help clean up the springs by
removing trash and debris. According to coordinators of the event, this
area is known for having items illegally discarded so safety is of
utmost priority.
The cleanup is sponsored by Volusia County Environmental Management and
is being supported by the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties with
volunteer recruitment, and Emerald Waste as a sponsor.
Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear sunglasses, a hat,
sunscreen, work gloves and comfortable clothing. Participants can bring
a towel and bathing suit to change into and enjoy the rest of the day at
the spring. Pre-registration is required.
