County to collect household
hazardous waste in New Smyrna Beach Nov. 14
Volusia County’s Solid Waste Division is
hosting a household hazardous waste collection event for materials such
as paint, used oils, pesticides, fluorescent lamps, car batteries and
cleaning chemicals. These materials could contaminate ground water if
disposed of improperly or pose a threat to the owner if kept too long.
County residents may drop off household
hazardous wastes without charge at the New Smyrna Beach Public Works
Department, 124 W. Industrial Park, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov.
14.
Only non-mixed household hazardous waste
is accepted. Businesses are not eligible for free disposal during this
collection event. Insulin needles will be accepted in approved
containers; the containers will not be returned.
Obsolete electronics will not be accepted
at this collection event; they may be dropped off for recycling
year-round without charge at the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange and the
West Volusia Transfer Station in DeLand. Residents also may bring
household hazardous waste to the landfill and transfer station for free
disposal year-round. The Tomoka Landfill offers a free paint exchange
program for residents year-round.
