CELL PHONES, PAGERS AND PALM PILOTS
CAN BE RECYCLED

Volusia County residents who own used mobile phones, pagers and palm pilots can recycle them.

Something as small as a cell phone, pager or palm pilot that fits in a hand or pocket may not seem like a threat to the environment at first glance. But mobile phones and their batteries contain mercury, cadmium, nickel and gallium arsenide that can contaminate groundwater. Residents are encouraged to exchange their mobile phones with their provider when upgrading to a new one.

To step up the collection of hazardous waste materials commonly found around the household, the Solid Waste Division offers a recycling drop-off program for used cell phones, palm pilots and pagers.

Collection points are at:

  • Tomoka Farms Road Landfill, 1990 Tomoka Farms Road, Daytona Beach
  • West Volusia Transfer Station, 3151 E. New York Ave., DeLand

Recycled phones are not available for purchase or trade-in. Residents recycling cell phones should first delete lists and numbers from the phone’s memory.
