SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH CLAIMS LIFE OF 25-YEAR-OLD MAN

A 25-year-old man was killed late Tuesday afternoon after he lost control of a three-wheel kit motorcycle in Deltona. The bike, which has an open-air vehicle cabin built onto the motorcycle chassis, flipped while turning onto Pilgrim Avenue from Normandy Boulevard and ended up in a residential driveway. The vehicle has no roof or seatbelts, and the driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene at 5:34 p.m. The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Jonathan Stapleton of Deltona and was not wearing a helmet.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the crash. Based on preliminary evidence at the scene, deputies believe that speed may have been a contributing factor to the crash. The vehicle is street legal, registered and has a tag.
