ROBBERY AT ORMOND BEACH JIFFY UNDER INVESTIGATION

A lone gunman made off with an undetermined amount of cash during a robbery Wednesday afternoon at Charlie’s Jiffy Store on South Nova Road near Ormond Beach. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the hold-up, which occurred shortly after 3 p.m. The robbery is under investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

The owner of the business called 911 at 3:03 p.m. to report the robbery, saying a man with a gun came into the store and demanded the money. The owner complied and handed over the cash in the register, and the suspect fled out the store and was last seen running towards Arroyo Parkway. The store owner said the whole thing lasted no more than 30 seconds.

Patrol deputies along with Sheriff’s motorcycle and K-9 units, investigators and a Sheriff’s Office helicopter rushed to the scene to search for the robber. Ormond Beach and Holly Hill police also assisted in the search. The first unit arrived in the area less than three minutes after the 911 call came in, but the robber was already gone. He was described as an approximately 17-year-old Black man who was about 5’5” and 180 pounds, with a goatee. The suspect was last seen wearing long black shorts, a white shirt and a white cap with a blue design on it. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Sheriff’s investigator Richard Fortin at (386) 323-0151 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
