DEBARY
BANK ROBBERY UNDER INVESTIGATION
A
lone gunman robbed the Riverside Bank on South Charles R. Beall
Boulevard in DeBary Thursday afternoon. No shots were fired and no one
was injured in the robbery, which occurred shortly after 3 p.m. The
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
The
Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about the robbery at 3:11 p.m.
Witnesses said the suspect flashed a handgun to a teller, pulled out a
bag and ordered the employee to fill the bag with money. The teller
complied with the robber’s demands and the suspect bolted out of the
bank with an undetermined amount of money, jumped into a white mini-van
and drove off towards Seminole County. Approximately two dozen patrol,
K-9 and investigative units responded to the robbery to search for the
suspect, monitor escape routes and collect evidence at the scene.
Deputies
were still searching for the robber late Thursday afternoon. He was
described as a stocky Black man with a mustache who was about 5’10”
and wore a black suit with a dress shirt and tie, sunglasses and a black
hat with a feather on the side. Anyone with information about the
robbery is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 668-3830 or
Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS.
Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a
reward of up to $1,000.
