SHERIFF’S
OFFICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING NEAR DELAND
The Volusia
County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting near DeLand Thursday
night that sent a woman to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her arm.
The woman was transported by a Sheriff's Office helicopter to Halifax
Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. She was able to talk with
investigators at the hospital after initial treatment for her non-life
threatening injury.
The Sheriff's
Office was notified of the shooting at 400 Napoleon Drive at
approximately 9:49 p.m. The victim, 54-year-old Charlene Miles, told
responding deputies she heard the doorbell and then went to the door.
She asked through the closed door who was there. She got no answer and
so looked out her window but didn't see anyone. A moment later multiple
gunshots suddenly rang out. One round struck her in the arm, having come
in through a window. She said that she never saw who did the shooting.
Miles' husband was also home at the time, but was not injured and did
not see the shooters. Several deputies and a K-9 unit converged on the
scene, but no suspects were found.
Anyone with information
about this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at (386)
