Ocean Center hosts five public events in August 

From a dinosaur exhibit to a beauty expo, the Ocean Center is hosting a variety of public events in August. 

Jurassic Quest will bring more than 50 life-size animatronic dinosaurs to the convention center from Aug. 5 to 7. Visitors can interact with the creatures, learn about them and even ride a few. Activities will include face painting, dinosaur crafts, inflatable mazes, and fossil digs where kids can uncover dinosaur bones. Exhibit hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 6, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 7. Admission is $15 for children, $25 for children's VIP admission, $21 for adults, and $19 for seniors. Children under 2 will be admitted free. Law enforcement, 911 operators and military personnel and their families save $2 per ticket. For more information, visit www.jurassicquest.com

The Volusia County Republican Party will host its Lincoln Day Victory Dinner with guest speaker Kris "Tanto" Paronto on Aug. 12. Paronto is a former U.S. Army Ranger who was part of the CIA annex security team that responded to the terrorist attack on the U.S. Special Mission in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012. The team helped save more than 20 lives while fighting off terrorists for more than 13 hours. The IRIE Mega Beauty Expo will be held in the Ocean Center’s arena Aug. 14 and 15, featuring classes, main stage presentations and demonstrations, and more than 100 exhibitors from beauty brands. Celebrity specialists and industry experts will showcase some of the industry's leading hairstylists, nail technicians, skin care gurus and barbers. Have some cold-blooded fun at the Reptile Breeders Expo from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 20 and 21. Visitors can see hundreds of captive-born snakes, spiders, lizards, amphibians and turtles, along with herpetology memorabilia, books and supplies. The sixth annual Volusia County Fall Home & Garden Show, set for Aug. 26 to 28, offers thousands of square feet of exhibits where browsers will find the latest in products and services including decks, pools, spas, entertainment systems, storage, plants, landscape displays and materials, kitchenware and more. Visitors can meet celebrity guests Wayde King and Brett Raymer, stars of Animal Planet's "Tanked." Other highlights include gardening and water features, home improvement items, a kids zone, and a pet zone where pets can be adopted. Hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 26, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 27, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 28. Tickets can be purchased with cash or check only.
