Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International
Airport (DBIA) decreased 12 percent in October 2009 compared with the
same month last year. But while available seats and traffic were down in
October, passenger loads were impressive: Delta Air Lines filled 95
percent of available seats, while U•S Airways filled 86 percent of
available seats.
During October, 29,590 passengers traveled
through DBIA, compared with 33,542 travelers recorded in October 2008.
For the past 12 months, 418,899 travelers traveled through the
county-operated airport, representing a 33-percent decrease compared to
the same 12-month period for the prior year when 699,893 passengers were
recorded.
Airport passenger traffic decreases in 2009
reflect an ongoing economic recession which has affected air travel
across the nation. However, traffic decreases have begun moderating as
2009 draws to a close. Further, some analysts are predicting a modest
increase in domestic air travel in 2010.
