About the Halifax Humane Society
- Open seven days a week, Monday through
Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Most Shelter costs must be met with
contributed funds from 3,000-plus membership of donations and fees.
- Cares for lost unwanted and abandoned animals.
- Unwanted animals accepted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- 11,000-plus dogs and cats cared for each year
- 1,000 plus injured wildlife cared for each year at the
Shelter or a licensed rehabilitator. Recovered wildlife is returned to natural habitat if
possible.
- Active Lost and Found service
- Emergency pickup and care for injured strays 24 hours a day,
365 days a year
Adoption program
- Every effort is made to assure that all adopted animals go
to responsible homes.
- All adoptees receive vaccinations and are wormed before
leaving the Shelter
- All adoptees receive a free health check from chosen
veterinarian.
- All adoptees receive and I.D. tag
- All adoptees are spayed or neutered.

Cats: $20 male and $35 female
Dogs: Male $35 (to 29 pounds); $50 (30-59) pounds and $55 (60-80 pounds)
Female: $45 (to 29 pounds); $55 (30-59 pounds) and $65 (60-80 pounds)

Complainants' identity is never revealed. Animals are top
priority. Education is attempted. If warranted, prosecution is pursued.

The Halifax Humane Society has provided humane care for
animals for more than 60 years. No animals sheltered at the Society are ever surrendered
to any laboratory, medical school or other institution for any use, whatsoever.
