Mission statement
To allow adoptable animals the opportunity to be placed in a good home, provide shelter and care for homeless animals, and educate the community regarding animal care and welfare.

About the West Volusia Humane Society
The West Volusia Humane Society became a "no-kill" facility on October 1, 1999. We recognize the value and worth of all pets. Our goal is to have a community in which every adoptable animal is guaranteed a loving home. We require that all pets adopted are spayed or neutered before an adoption is final.

Hours
11 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday -Saturday.

Policy
Our policy is no-kill. We will not euthanize a healthy animal to make room at our shelter or to reduce the pet over-population. "Adoptable" is defined as an animal in reasonable health and well adjusted, not ill or injured, which can be safely made available to the public for adoption.

Admission of animals
In some instances, it may be necessary to refuse admission of an animal for the following reasons:

  • Whether space is available
  • Whether the animal is dangerous
  • Evaluation of health - whether the animal is healthy (ill health does not necessarily mean rejection)
  • Other conditions deemed appropriate by management

Spay/neuter
All animals leaving the shelter will be spayed or neutered.

Fees
Adoption fee: $50

The West Volusia Humane Society provides these services for its adopted pets:

  • *Spay/neuter
  • A free veterinarian visit
  • A free first booster shot and worming
  • Free 10 weeks obedience class for dogs
  • Dogs are tested for heartworms
  • Cats are tested for feline leukemia and aids

*If under special circumstances, animals are not yet spayed or neutered, $25 of the $50 adoption fee is applied to the cost of private spay/neuter.

Be a humane society volunteer!
Could you walk a dog? Can you clean a cat cage? Could you open newspapers? Mow grass? Plant flowers? Help at adoption or fund-raising functions? If your answer is "yes" to any of these questions, please think about the service you could be providing by volunteering as little as a half-hour a month.

Won’t you call us today and get on the list? We need you!
