Blanketflower is a prolific annual that will grow basically anywhere.  Its showy, salt tolerant blossoms attract butterflies and may be used as cut flowers.

Leaves
Leaves are narrow, alternate, lance-shaped, with the lower leaves toothed at the edge.

Flowers
Zinnia-like flowers are usually orange or maroon with a yellow tip and a darker center disk. Color vary. Flowers appear singly on long stems that may sprawl or remain upright. Flowers year-round

Fruit
Fruit is a 4-pitted lavender-pink, magenta, or violet drupe, about 1/4 inch in diameter. The fruit lasts long into winter and are eaten by a variety of birds.

Stems
Stems are green and strong enough to support the weight of the large flower head.

Propagation
Propagation is by seed or division of clumps.

Blanket Flower makes an fast, hardy, easy-to-grow flower.  Its brightly colored blooms last for months.  An excellent choice for flower beds, to line walkways, or in natural areas.

Interesting Facts
It is naturally seen in coastal areas, but recently has been used to seed highway medians.
