Leaves
Palmate leaves range in color from dark green
to yellow-green leaves that seem almost silvery on the underside. The leaves are held on
thin 3 foot flattened stems that are finely toothed along both edges. Leaves are circular,
about 3 feet in diameter and segmented about halfway. They are flat with leaf segment tips
that are generally held stiffly.
Flowers
Yellow flowers slip out of packet-like buds in late winter and early spring.
Fruit
Round, blue fruit is less than ½ an
inch in length.
Trunk
Covered with dense, brown, hair-like
fibers. In older trees, the fibers fall away to reveal a smooth, ringed trunk.
Propagation
Windmill Palm seeds easily germinate
in 8-12 weeks.
Landscape usage
Great accent palm as it responds well to the urban environment. It fits well in
small areas and containers and lis attractive in groupings.
