Thoughts
from the President Louise Stanley The current year is winding down very rapidly. There are many signs to assure you this is the case. The list of outings remaining is shrinking fast. There will be a spring migration bird count in early May, and some of our members will, soon after, begin their own annual migration. By the end of May, our annual banquet will have signaled the end of the 1998-99 season, with the installation of a new slate of officers. As you can see elsewhere in these pages, the Nominating Committee was unable to secure a commitment from anyone for the position of president. I know how you who have turned down the opportunity may feel. It seems a large commitment. It is a commitment but you do not have to feel alone, because the Board of Directors help you do much of the work. You do need to stand up and talk to people at least once a month. That's not too bad--I haven't been pelted with rotten fruit...yet. Remember also, to ask for help when you need it-we are all in this together. If you have ever held a job of any responsibility, run a household of more than one person, taught school, operated a business, in other words, lived a life which called for some organization (we all have), you are most likely qualified. Check yourself out and if you want to reconsider an invitation to be president of WVAS, call Ray Purkey of the Nominating Committee and let him know. |
