Gemini Springs

Gemini.jpg (7857 bytes)The 210-acre Gemini Springs was purchased in 1994 through the combined efforts of Volusia County Government, the Trust for Public Lands, the St. Johns River Water Management District and the Florida Communities Trust.

Approximately 6.5 million gallons of sparkling fresh water bubble up from the two springs each day, filling a serene pond with a swimming area and children's wading pool. A wooden fishing dock stretching over DeBary Bayou beyond the spillway is the only area where fishing is allowed. A valid Florida freshwater fishing permit is required. A 3/4 mile nature trail, a mile-long loop bike trail, and about 1,500 feet of sidewalks are available for recreation.

Picnic pavilions may be reserved by calling the Park Manager Office at (386) 668-3810, or Volusia County Leisure Services at (386) 736-5953. Canoes may be launched at a spot near the fishing pier during regular park hours. (Life jackets are mandatory for children and non-swimmers and lifejackets for each passenger must also be in the canoe.) Individual and group camp sites are available for rent.

Horses may be ridden on two marked trails totaling two miles after arranging with the Park Manager for parking horse trailers. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. There is a canoe launch near the fishing pier.

A yearlong month-by-month bird audit by members of West Volusia Audubon Society was completed in April 1998 (See checklists). Admission is $3.50 per car.
