The Citizens Academy is a fun, hands-on awareness program
held once a year. It is designed to educate
and inform citizens about how Volusia County Government functions.
The Citizens Academy curriculum
offers a wide range of seminars and workshops featuring the "inner
workings" of Volusia County Government. Topics include elections, growth
management, community services, public protection, property
assessments, budgets and more. Citizens will view County construction
projects, visit the Marine Science Center and County parks, and
shadow a County administrator for a closer look at our organization.
The class meets on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at various County
facilities. There is no charge for the program.
The program is limited to 25 participants. Applicants are
asked to commit to the entire, 12-week program.
Some basic knowledge and familiarity with computers is helpful, as class
materials are posted online and email is used to communicate
with class members.
