The Volusia County Citizens Academy

The 2012 Citizens Academy class has been rescheduled for the fall. Additional information will be posted soon.

The Volusia County Citizens Academy is a fun, hands-on awareness program designed to educate and inform citizens about Volusia County government operations.

The class meets from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. tuesdays  for 12 weeks and is held at various county facilities. There is no charge for the program, but applicants are asked to commit to attending all 12  classes.

The Citizens Academy curriculum offers a wide range of seminars and workshops featuring the inner workings of Volusia County Government. Topics include elections, growth management, community services, public protection, property assessments, budgets and more. Citizens will view county construction projects, visit the Marine Science Center and county parks, and shadow a county administrator for a closer look at our organization.

Some basic knowledge and familiarity with computers is helpful, as class materials are posted online and email is used to communicate with class members.

For more information, please call or email Cindy Finney, program administrator, in the Volusia County Manager’s office at 386-740-5160 or cfinney@co.volusia.fl.us
