Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes and bring work gloves.  Rakes, shovels, and trash grabbers may be helpful but not necessary.  Steps should be taken to protect yourself from the sun.  Bottled water is a good idea to bring.

Volunteers with vessels who can get on the river are welcome also.  Tires, white goods (appliances, electronics) and hazardous waste will be piled separately from other trash.

For more information about the event or to learn how you can be involved, please contact Stacey Bell at (386)238-4716 or sbell@co.volusia.fl.us.

Previously, the 23rd Annual Halifax/Indian River Cleanup was held on May 14, 2011.  With the help of our 690 volunteers, 16.5 tons of debris was removed from the river.  We would like to thank all of our community groups and individuals who participated in the event. The participants who pre-registered for this event received a T-shirt and a reusable water bottle.

Volusia County has been blessed with a wonderful diversity of wildlife.  However, many of these animals are threatened each day by the debris that finds its way into our rivers.  By becoming stewards of the environment we can all work together to keep our estuaries and shorelines clean and to help insure healthy waterways for the future.  We look forward to seeing you on the river!

A special thank you goes out to all of our wonderful sponsors for 2011, whose help made the event possible:
