Chair’s Report

  • Chair recognized and welcomed new CFAB members Karen Bourbonnais and Kymberly Cook.
  • Chair opened floor for nominations for new Chair and Vice Chair. Motion was made to re-elect Mary Bruno as Chair and Mary Lou as Vice Chair. It was noted that when the CFAB was re-established the resolution specified limits as to the term of Chair and Vice Chair. Board requested that staff request County Council to modify resolution and eliminate limits. Motion tabled.

Minutes

A motion was made by Alice Johnson to accept the minutes of the January 22 meeting. Motion was seconded by Dr. Henry Martin. Motion passed.

Old Business: None

New Business:

  • Mr. Williams acknowledged the involvement and dedicated participation of the Board Chair and Board Members in previous years and presented certificates of appreciation. Mr. Williams also acknowledged the dedicated support of Jennifer Knicely Sprouse from United Way regarding the joint application and workshops and presented certificate of appreciation.
  • On behalf of agency, Staff requested re-allocation of funding for Easter Seals. Two sites have been closed (New Smyrna and Deltona.) Currently 50% of children that were attending Deltona are now attending Deland. Agency requested 50% of funding for Deltona be re-allocated to Deland for the balance of the year. Motion made by Alice Johnson to approve. Motion seconded by Mary Lou Mirino. Motion passed.
  • Staff requested Board approval of $7,045 increase in funding to Family Renew. Board had previously approved all agencies to be funded at 2001-2002 level. Inadvertently Family Renew was not increased. Motion made by Dr. Henry Martin to approve, seconded by Angela Jackson. Motion passed.
  • Staff, on the request of Leisure Services, requests the Board to re-allocate $3,000 originally approved for after school activities, to Summer Camp. Staff also requested Board to re-allocate all unallocated funds to Summer Camp. Motion made by Dr. Henry Martin to approve, seconded by Alice Johnson. Motion passed.
  • Staff reviewed scoring procedures for the day. Staff also advised Board of per capita increase. Chair reminded Board of guidelines established at last meeting.
  • Agency Presentations.
  • Board assigned tiers to scores.
  • Board will meet again on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 to approve allocations.

Advisory Board Participation

Alice Johnson expressed concern with problems still occurring with applications. Motion made by Karen Bourbonnais to require agencies to attend one application workshop, one budget workshop, and one appointment with staff to review application. Motion seconded by Kymberly Cook. Motion passed.

Kymberly Cook stated that today’s activities were a wonderful experience. She was not aware of all the services available in Volusia County.

Karen Bourbonnais advised Board of College Tuition Scholarships available through Futures (Take Stock in Children).
