Chair’s
Report: Chair reminded Board of purpose
of today’s meeting as "information gathering" session
regarding licensure of family home day cares.
Minutes:
Motion made by Dr. Henry Martin to approve minutes of April 2, April 16
and May 15. Motion seconded by Alice Johnson. Motion passed.
Correspondence:
Board advised of change in Director
of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Hugh O’Malley leaving. Jerutha
Hough, Director of God’s Covenant Mission Center, addressed Board
regarding summer camp as to how funding for summer camp sites is
allocated. GCMC was not funded this year because Volusia County Leisure
Services provided a camp site in Lake Helen. Mr. Williams stated the CFAB
position is to utilize Volusia County Leisure Services as the primary
provider for summer camp. In areas where Leisure Services does not provide
a summer camp the CFAB would contract with agencies to provide service to
unserved areas. Mrs. Bruno advised that process would be reviewed for next
year’s funding.
Maria Augustine was given a certificate of
appreciation for her participation on the Children and Families Advisory
Board.
(Other Board members were recognized at a
previous meeting).
Old Business:
CFAB approved schedule of meetings for July through September
Presentations regarding licensure of family
home day cares made by
Summer Clayton –League of Women Voters
Sandra Anderson – County Staff
Raphael Gomez – School Readiness
New Business:
None
Public
Participation: Lynne Labombard, the
licensing coordinator for family child care homes from Child Care Resource
network addressed the issue of parental choice of registered or licensed
family child care homes and advocated for mandating licensure.
