Fun and education await nature lovers at Marine Science Center's Bird Festival Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010

Learn about the wonder of bird migration, watch a free-flying raptor demonstration, and witness the release of rehabilitated sea birds and a sea turtle at the sixth annual Bird Fest at the Marine Science Center (MSC) in Ponce Inlet.

Bird Fest is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. Admission is free.

“The event features many exhibitors, including nature groups, crafters, food vendors and children’s activities,” said MSC Manager Michael Brothers. “Visitors will enjoy tours of the Marine Science Center and its Mary Kelly Seabird Rehabilitation Center.”

The event will culminate with the release of rehabilitated birds - a juvenile brown pelican and possibly a laughing gull. MSC staff also will release Gwynn, a subadult loggerhead turtle that was stranded in March in Daytona Beach.

The releases will take place at 3 p.m. at the Beach Street beach approach in Ponce Inlet, a 10- minute walk from the Marine Science Center.
