VOLUSIA TAX ROLL APPROVED – The state has certified Volusia’s 2005 tax roll. The total value of all properties is $43.6 billion, an increase of 23 percent from the 2004 tax roll. There are now 317,395 parcels on the roll. New construction in the last year added $1 billion to the roll. The tax roll is used by local taxing authorities to calculate property tax rates. Truth In Millage (TRIM) notices will be mailed to property owners in mid-August. The TRIM notices list new valuations and notify property owners of the tax rates being proposed by local taxing authorities.

JUNE TRAFFIC INCREASES AT DAYTONA BEACH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport was up 2.3 percent in June in comparison with the same month last year. Airport Director Dennis McGee noted that June traffic numbers continue a positive trend that started in late 2002. However, more airline capacity is needed if traffic gains are to continue. McGee also said the Airport this month has made several air service proposals to encourage more air service at Daytona Beach International Airport. The County-operated airport recorded 58,765 incoming and outgoing passengers during June. This compares to the 57,451 travelers recorded in June last year. For the past 12 months, 638,546 travelers have flown in and out of the Airport, a 4.5 percent increase over the same 12-month period for the prior year when the Airport handled 610,787 total passengers.

DEADLINE LOOMS FOR STORMWATER FEE CREDIT APPLICATIONS -- With the stormwater fee levied by Volusia County on developed properties in unincorporated Volusia scheduled to increase this fall, County officials want to remind business property owners they may qualify for a credit. Unincorporated Volusia property owners may get a credit if their developed property has a stormwater management facility that is operated and maintained properly. Stormwater facilities that reduce pollutant discharge, flood impacts, or both may qualify. Property owners seeking a credit must submit all required information no later than August 1 to be eligible for credit on the property tax bill to be mailed in November. However, stormwater credit applications may be submitted until November 1 and be eligible for the credit. Forms can be obtained on-line at www.volusia.org/stormwater or can be picked up at the Volusia County Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand. THE CHAMBER, VCARD SPONSOR BREAKFAST MEETING – The Chamber: Daytona Beach and Halifax Area and the Volusia County Association for Responsible Development (VCARD) are sponsoring a breakfast meeting that will feature Thaddeus Cohen, Secretary of the Florida Department of Community Affairs, as the guest speaker. Cohen will discuss Florida’s new growth management legislation and its impact on local governments and land development. REGISTRATION FOR SIXTH CITIZENS ACADEMY CLASS ENDS TUESDAY -- The fall term begins August 9 for the Volusia County Government Citizens Academy, a hands-on awareness program designed to educate and inform citizens about how county government works. The 12-week curriculum offers a wide range of seminars and workshops featuring the inner workings of county government. Topics include elections, growth management, community services, public protection, property assessments, budgets and more. Applications are online at volusia.org.
