GOVERNMENT PROCUREMENT Florida's eProcurement system, MyFloridaMarketPlace, is designed to streamline transactions between vendors and state government entities that purchase goods and services. Businesses register online. Businesses that want to apply for minority business enterprise (MBE) certification can do so as part of the online registration process. More than 66,000 vendors, including almost 21,000 minority vendors, have registered with MyFloridaMarketPlace. More than 194,000 purchase orders have been placed with a vendor value of $1.6 billion. IN SEARCH OF MEDICAL PRODUCT MANUFACTURERS – The Volusia County Economic Development Department participated in the annual Medical Device Manufacturing (MDM) trade show in New York City the week of June 2. The show attracts more than 1,000 regional and national medical product-related manufacturers, and more than 25,000 business representative worldwide. The MDM show is an excellent venue for Volusia County to promote business relocation and expansion site opportunities, and local manufacturing outsourcing resources available from area companies. Also participating in the show was a representative of the Halifax Area Business Development Partnership. 

LARGE MANUFACTURING SITE NEEDED – The Volusia County Department of Economic Development is designing a business recruitment proposal to present to a U.S. manufacturer currently operating offshore. The proposal will require available building sites zoned for manufacturing, fully permitted, ready-to-build and capable of supporting up to 200,000 square feet of production space. Sites may be for sale or for build-to-suit lease. This is an outbound proposal being designed to spark possible relocation of this business unit. INTERNATIONAL TRADE GRANTS AVAILABLE TO AREA MANUFACTURERS – Volusia County, in cooperation with the State of Florida, is coordinating international trade grants for Volusia County manufacturers interested in exploring and opening new sales markets overseas. The county’s program covers more than 130 countries worldwide and provides funding opportunities for local companies to identify potential customers, sales leads, establish sales meetings with pre-screened customers, translation services, and coordinate meeting locations and transportation services. WORKFORCE TRAINING TOPS! A poll of national site selectors ranks Florida among the top three states with the best workforce training program in the nation, up from 10th place in 2006. SBA OFFERS DISASTER ASSISTANCE LOANS –The Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering low-interest disaster loans for residents and businesses in Volusia County affected by the May 11 - 13 wildfires. Loans of up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for loans up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property. The deadline to return applications for physical property damage is July 29.
