VOLUSIA MANUFACTURERS OF THE YEAR – At its annual awards banquet at
the Sunset Harbor Yacht Club Oct. 22, the Volusia Manufacturers
Association honored several Volusia companies and individuals for their
contributions to the manufacturing community and the economic health of
Volusia County. County Chair Frank Bruno read a proclamation from the
County Council and led the swearing in of new officers and board
members. Honorees were AO Precision (Manufacturer of the Year); Germfree
Laboratories (Exporter of the Year); Hudson Technologies, (Best
Practices); Joe Scott of FPL (Hall of Fame); Roy Braddy of Hudson
Technologies (Member of the Year); and Leslie Castillo-Solis of Kelly
Services (Friend of Industry Award).

www.FBO.gov to find out which agencies
are active; 2) Register your small business with the federal government
at the Central Contractor Registration on
www.CCR.gov; 3) Partner with another business that has been doing
federal contracting work, or be one of its subcontractors, and 4) If
appropriate, get your small business certified in a category that may
give you an edge, such as woman-owned, minority-owned, veteran-owned, or

VOLUSIA BUSINESS EMERGENCY OPS CENTER WINS STATE AWARD – The
Business Emergency Operations Center has won an Award of Excellence from
the State of Florida Division of Emergency Management. The award was
presented Tuesday at the State Logistic Response Center in Orlando. The
Business Emergency Operations Center is a part of the Volusia County
Government’s Emergency Operations Center and is designed to provide a
focal point for businesses to help each other with critical information
and resources in emergencies.

PREVENTING FUTURE FLOODING – Local governments in east Volusia
County’s Halifax Area are funding a drainage study to identify projects
that would help prevent a recurrence of the flooding that occurred
during last spring’s heavy rains. The study will examine the entire east
Volusia basin, including ways to improve drainage through the various
canal systems and methods to boost pumping capacities during heavy
rains. Participating governments include Volusia County, and the cities
of Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, Daytona Beach, South Daytona and Port
Orange.
EXPORT DIRECTORY – Enterprise Florida has announced the launch of
the online “Florida Export Directory” at
www.FloridaExportDirectory.com. The new tool allows Florida
exporters to gain international market exposure at little or no cost
through a Web-based directory. The online service allows Florida
companies to be contacted directly by overseas buyers about purchases,
agent/distributorships, licensing and franchise agreements, and joint
venture opportunities.
