SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS ANNOUNCES PRELIMINARY AUDIT RESULTS OF EARLY VOTING

As part of standard protocol of the Volusia County Department of Elections, Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall announces a discrepancy of 4 unscanned ballots voted on the AccuVote Optical Scan after a preliminary audit of votes cast at the City Island Library early voting site.

Supervisor McFall originally reported a one-vote discrepancy to the canvassing board on January 24; the canvassing board decided to table any action until the completion of early voting. On the last day of early voting, Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the City Island library, another 3 votes were discovered not to be counted by the AccuVote Optical Scan.

Supervisor McFall is recommending to the canvassing board that a refeed of all early voting ballots voted at the City Island Library begin during the regular canvassing board meeting scheduled to begin at 7:00am Election Day. The refeed will occur sometime during the day, as time permits. The final decision will be made based on the Supervisor’s recommendation at the regularly scheduled meeting of the canvassing board on Monday, January 28 at 2:30pm at the Historic Courthouse, 125 W. New York Avenue, Deland, 1st floor, Conference Room 1.
