ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF RECOUNTS
Three out of four of the Volusia County races tagged for recounts
are now complete. By election night November 4, 2008, it was
determined four races in Volusia County would require a recount.
State law requires if the margin between two candidates or choices
in a particular race is half of a percent or less, a machine recount
of that race is to take place. If the margin is a quarter of a
percent or less, a manual recount will follow the machine recount.
The results of the recounts are as follows:
- County Council District 2—Joshua J. Wagner won the seat by
88 votes, capturing 18,392 votes verses Nancy Epps’ 18,304
votes.
- Lake Helen, Commissioner 2—Vernon Burton won the seat by 3
votes, capturing 703 votes verses Alan “Cookie” Cooke’s 700
votes.
- Lake Helen, Commissioner 4—Cameron Lane won the seat by 3
votes, capturing 686 votes verses Louis T. Benton III’s 683.
Deltona’s referendum about increasing charter review committee
members, also known as Referendum 8, is still undetermined. A
decision as to whether the race will be recounted will be made early
next week.
