SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS ANNOUNCES UPCOMING ELECTIONS

There will be two separate book closing dates in advance of two upcoming elections this fall, announced Ann McFall, Volusia County’s Supervisor of Elections. By Florida law, a person must be registered at least 29 days before an election to be eligible to vote in that election.

“The cities of New Smyrna Beach and Orange City will be holding the first of two municipal elections scheduled for this fall. Running consecutively to this is a recently scheduled Special Primary Election called by Gov. Charlie Crist to fill the vacancy of the office of State Senate, District 8,” stated McFall.

The Special Primary Election for State Senate, District 8 will be Sept. 15, 2009, with a book closing deadline of Aug. 17, 2009. Early Voting will be available Monday, Sept, 7, 2009, through Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library and the Supervisor of Elections office in DeLand. Only voters assigned to Florida Senate, District 8 will be eligible to vote in this upcoming election. Should there be a General/Runoff Election, it will take place Oct. 6, 2009.

The municipal primary for New Smyrna Beach and the general election for Orange City will take place Sept. 22, 2009, with a book closing deadline of August 24, 2009. Early Voting will be available Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, through Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library and the Supervisor of Elections office in DeLand. Voters must be residents within the city limits of the respective cities in order to be eligible to vote.

New Smyrna Beach and Orange City will potentially hold a General/Runoff Election along with Lake Helen, Ponce Inlet and Pierson’s elections scheduled for Nov. 3, 2009.

Those wishing to register or update voter records can obtain an application at any Volusia County library, city hall, post office, chamber of commerce, driver license bureau, agency that provides public assistance, office that serves persons with disabilities, center for independent living and many Volusia County Government offices.
