Charles (Charlie) C.
Craig,
Director
Charlie Craig became the Emergency
Management Director in February 2008. Formerly a Counselor/Educator and
Coordinator of Admissions for Seminole Community College, Charlie has
been exposed to all types of Community Education. He retired in 1998
after 28 years in the Army/Florida Army National Guard, the last 12 of
which were Active Duty. After two years with the Property Appraiser he
joined the Emergency Management Team.
Charlie has extensive Military as well as Emergency Management
Operations experience. He has worked in the Volusia County Emergency
Operations Center (EOC) as both a damage assessment (ESF 19) and a
Military Support (ESF 13) representative. He attended the Integrated
Emergency Management course with Volusia County in 1997. He worked the
EOC Operations for the central Florida tornadoes and the Wildfires of
1998 as well as the Hurricanes of 2004 and Tornadoes of 2006-2007.
A second generation native of Miami, Florida, he has first hand
experience with Hurricanes’ Donna, Cleo, Betsy, Andrew, Erin, Opal,
Floyd, Irene, Charley, Frances and Jeanne.
Charlie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Stetson
University and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Stetson
University as well. He has completed a myriad of military service school
courses and professional development course work and has received the
Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation as well as the Florida
Professional Emergency Manager (FPEM) designation and is a certified
Florida type I instructor. Charlie resides in DeLand with his wife,
Betsy, of 38 years and their married son, Charles Brantley, is a
professor in Virginia with a PHD in Religious studies and Literature.
