Shellfish and Water Quality Task Force:
This work group’s mission is to monitor the health of
key, indicator species such as shellfish to determine causes
and effects of water quality degradation. The health of the
shellfish beds reflect the overall health of the estuary and
through diligent research the relatively pristine nature of
the Northern Coastal Basin may be preserved.
Public Awareness, Involvement &
Education Work Group:
The Northern Coastal Basin Program brings together staff
professionals from county and local government agencies, the
SJRWMD and other organizations to work with citizens and
volunteers on projects that will improve their environment and
on issues that might impact them.
Water Quality Monitoring Work Group:
The Northern Coastal Basin Program encourages viewing our
watershed as a regional issue. Working with the SJRWMD staff
and county governments water quality data is collected and
analyzed. This helps scientists collate and share data in a
useful way. Activities in one area of a multi-county watershed
will ultimately affect other areas.
