Beach Wildlife
|
|
 |
 |
The coastal ecosystem is an amazing environment that is home to a
variety of wildlife throughout the year. Some animals found at the
beach are seasonal residents, like nesting sea turtles, right whales
and migratory shorebirds. Others, like the gopher tortoise, live
here year round. All of these coastal animals depend on the dry
sandy beaches and dune systems for a place to rest, reproduce, or
feed.
- While enjoying Volusia County beaches, there are many things that
you can do to help wildlife!
- Always observe wildlife from a distance! If an animal seems
stressed, moves away from you, or vocalizes, you are probably too
close and should move away slowly.
- Keep off dunes and dune vegetation! Designated dune walkovers are
available for accessing the beach throughout Volusia County.
- Always put trash in its place and remember to RECYCLE!
- Volunteer!
- Live GREEN to help preserve natural resources and habitats for all
wildlife! Visit http://www.volusia.org/green/
for more information
about how you can go green in Volusia County.
