Interested in volunteering your time to look for more than just seashells along the beach? If you are, join the Washback Watcher program! This team of permitted volunteers is trained to find and rescue young sea turtles that wash ashore due to heavy winds and surf. Volunteers are able to look for the sea turtles among accumulations of seaweed within different beach zones. Training only takes place in June or July of every year. For more information or to see if your favorite mile of beach is available for adoption call, contact Volusia County Environmental Management Staff at (386) 239-6414 X 33 or 34.
