28th annual
Farm Tour 2009

Agricultural operations across Volusia County will
open their doors to the public Friday, Nov. 20, during the 28th annual
Farm Tour.
Self-driving tours of east and west
Volusia will feature farms, ranches and companies producing the area’s
fruit and honey, vegetables, cattle and plants.
The tour is sponsored by the University of Florida
Cooperative Extension Service and the Volusia County Farm Bureau.
This year’s schedule has 10 sites showcasing
agricultural products grown in Volusia County. Individuals or groups can
choose a section of the county, times and locations to suit their tastes.

Evans fish farm

Visit one of the most progressive aquaculture facilities in Florida. See
several species of giant sturgeon and other varieties of fish.
Take Hwy 17 north to Pierson. Turn east on East Washington, go about 3.3
miles then straight through the gate.

Wm. F. Puckett Inc.
Fernery

Experience an impressive display of cut foliage greenery grown on the
Puckett's farms in Volusia County. Their products are shipped throughout
the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. View the preparation and
packaging of these products. See Holiday Wreaths, Garlands, and
specialty Holiday items being constructed using the beautiful Southern
Christmas greenery grown in Florida for their markets. Wm. F. Puckett,
Inc. has been in business for 35 years, and employs in excess of 125
employees.
From Hwy 17 turn west on SR 40, go 4.0 miles turn right on Stone Road to
1860 in Barberville.

The Magnolia

Come see this family farming operation in Northwest Volusia in the town
of Barberville. For six generations family members have participated in
the development of this Ag based businesses. Underhill Ferneries, The
Magnolia Company, Seeds of Life and The Magnolia Tree Company employ
approximately 150 employees throughout the year in areas of cut foliage,
gifting, tree farm and landscaping operations. Go east on SR 40 3.5
miles, turn left on Chesser Hammock Rd (by the large wooden cross) and follow the
road to the
Magnolia tree farm.

Deep Creek Ranch

hydroponic strawberries and cutting edge irrigation techniques. Fresh
picked fruit will be available for sale.
From Deep Creek go south on Lake Winona Road 3.5 miles, then left onto Johnson Lake Road,
and go to 601.

EFG Orchids

Established in Addison, Illinois in 1939, this fourth generation nursery
relocated to DeLand 10 years ago. They specialize in ground orchids.
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to buy orchids directly from
the wholesaler. North on Marsh Road, 4.5 miles to 4265 Marsh Road.

Watson Citrus Grove

Experience one of the oldest citrus groves in the county dating
back to the early 50’s. Owned by Mr. Truett Cathy and operated by Jimmy
Watson, where several of varieties of fruit including oranges and grapefruit
flourish. See
the historic Red Barn built by hand for the Parrish family to entertain
famous guests. Just around the corner is Mr. Watson's Christmas tree
farm. It's never too early to pick out the perfect tree for the
holidays.
South of Oak Hill on US Hwy 1, cross train overpass then two miles, take
the first left on County Line Road. Go ¾ mile to the red barn on the
right at 1456.

Seafood Co-op

The Oak Hill Seafood Co-Op is a
private non-profit organization that promotes the seafood industry in
the Volusia County, FL area. They provide a range of products from Oak
Hill's pristine waters for retail and wholesale.

Honey Company (map)
Tropical Blossom Honey Company has been in Edgewater since 1940. They
process and package honey from 36 local bee keepers. Visit the museum on
site, sample the latest varieties of honey, and chew on some Wildflower
Honeycomb. Learn all the latest information on colony collapse disorder
and Africanized Honey bee status.
