Quarterly Highlights

  • Agri-Business Inter-Relationship Committee met to discuss aquaculture zoning issues.
  • The Volusia County Extension Overall Advisory Committee met to discuss program objectives for 2010.
  • An update of the Bermuda grass research being conducted in Oak Hill was presented to growers.
  • The annual 4-H Grooming and Showmanship clinics were attended by 152 youth and leaders.
  • The summer 4-H camp was a great success, with 24 youth attending.
  • 4-H received a Cumberland Farms grant to build a butterfly garden at the Begin Grief Center in Daytona Beach.
  • The 4-H Horticulture Team won the state competition and now will compete in the National Horticulture Contest in October.
  • Extension staff presented five professional abstracts at the Extension Professionals Association of Florida Annual meeting in Orlando.
  • Four 1st Time Home Buyers Education classes were conducted. Forty Casual Gardening classes were conducted.
  • Extension established a partnership with two abuse centers to provide nutrition education.
  • The Back to Basics Community Involvement Program at Read-Pattillo Elementary won the State Family Involvement award for 2009.
