Soil
testing form
The form below is used to test pH and
soluble salt for both private and commercial clients. The cost is one
dollar per sample. Complete the form and bring to the Volusia County
Agricultural Center for analysis. Click
here for the soil
testing form.
Bring the form and your soil samples by the Agricultural Center by
Wednesday of any week for testing on Thursday. The results can be
mailed, emailed or faxed back to you, usually within a week.
How to collect a soil sample for analysis for soil pH testing:
Test by removing samples of soil from the surface down to 6” below the
surface. Mix three to five samples from one area together in a plastic
pail, then put one scoop of the mix into a sealable plastic bag. Label
the bag carefully so you will know which area it represents. Sample the
soil in this way for each different area you want to measure.
The pH is a measure of acidity and ranges from 0 to 14. Below 7 is acid,
above 7 is alkaline and 7 is neutral. It is the single most important
factor in the soil that gardeners can control.
If the test results indicate a pH other than you want, dolomitic lime
can be added to lower acidity (raise the pH); powdered sulfur will
increase acidity (lower the pH) for a short period of time.
For a more detailed soil analysis, fill out the printable
form SL 136
and mail to the University of Florida in Gainesville with your check
and soil sample(s).
