Your yard is the first line of defense
for Volusia County's fragile environment. The health of our estuaries,
rivers, lakes and aquifer depends in part on how you landscape and
maintain your yard.
The
Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Program was developed by the University
of Florida University of Florida Extension Service and the National
Estuary Program to address the home environment. The goal of the program
is to become a Certified Florida Yard (see
checklist). Once the checklist has been reviewed by the
University of Florida/Volusia County University of Florida Extension
Service, an appointment will be made to visit the property to certify
the yard as a Certified Florida Yard. At that time you will receive a
Certified Florida Yard Sign and a copy of " A Guide to
Environmentally Friendly Landscaping: Florida Yards and Neighborhoods
Handbook." This program is open to all Volusia County residents.
