WILDFIRE CONSUMES 125 ACRES IN SOUTHWEST VOLUSIA

Firefighters from five agencies are working to contain a wildfire that had consumed nearly 125 acres by 5 p.m. T uesday. The fire is located three-and-a-half miles south of State Route 44 off Ranchette road in southwestern Volusia County. It is said to be moving west to northwest.

The fire is only partially contained at this time, according to fire officials.

Although no homes are endangered, 15-20 one-five acre homes are in the area. No evacuations were ordered. However, one disabled person did ask to be evacuated.

Origin of the fire is unknown although firefighters received a report to investigate smoke in the area around 2:30 p.m. Aircraft surveying the fire scene reported wreckage of a small plane in the fire area. No other information is available at this time.

Firefighters from Volusia County, Seminole County and Deltona are aided by the Division of Forestry and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in battling the fire and investigating its origin. More than 50 personnel are engaged in fighting the fire. They are using a chopper and bucket, a fixed wing aircraft, air tanker, five tractors, five brush trucks and two tankers.
