FIRE LINES ALMOST COMPLETE IN LAKE HELEN
Volusia County Fire Services, working with Public Works,
Corrections and the Division of Forestry, is keeping a watchful eye on the Lake Helen fire
which flared up again Thursday.
"The weather was in our favor today," said Deputy
Fire Chief Frank Pocica. "As long as the winds and temperatures stay down and the
humidity remains high, we should be in good shape."
Late in the day, the blaze was mostly contained, according
to Pocica. Fire lanes were 80 percent complete, and crews were managing the fires as it
approached these breaks. No injuries have been reported and no homes have been threatened.
Saturday crews will work to complete fire lines and begin
mop up operations in the southeast corner of the fire.
Note: This is the final release for April 16 unless
the situation changes drastically.
